The final steel consumption in India increased by 5.2 percent to a CAGR of 100 MT in FY16-FY20. The production of crude steel and finished steel in India rose in FY20P respectively to 108.5 MT and 101.03 MT. The cumulative output of finished steel by India at 85.60 MT, between April 2020 and February 2021. The final steel consumption of India in April 2021 amounted to 6.78 MT. Government Initiatives

The 2017 National Steel Policy provides for the production capacity of 300 million tonnes by 2030-31. The usage of steel per person rose during the last five years from 57.6 kgs to 74.1 kgs. The goal of the government is to raise rural steel consumption to 38 kg/per capita by 2030-31 from the current 19.6 kilos per capita.
